MPG Antenna Test System (ATS) has been designed to test and measure the Transfer Function of antennas under test. The MPG system can generate Pulsed or CW RF signals and receive a replica from the antenna. The received signal is then acquired and compared, in amplitude and phase, with the transmitted signal, to provide a precise measurement and performance characterization of the antenna. The analysis is performed in the Time Domain, based on a single or a streaming of pulses. As option, data can also be recorded for post processing analysis to allow the user to achieve a graphical investigation of the received pulses (shape, edges, flatness…).
Standard version covers up to 6GHz with frequency options up to 12GHz, 18GHz and higher frequency range. ATS can be controlled, in local or remote, by a friendly and graphical user interface that supports the user in setting up and running the system.

ATS is a very light and compact unit that can be used also in uncomfortable conditions. The case protects against shock, vibrations and environmental agents (rain, dust, sand…). The standard version is made up of one TX and one RX channel and can be expanded up to 4 RX channels to allow simultaneous test of complex antennas.
Possible application field is the testing of AESA systems for multi-function radars like Empar, Kronos or tracking radars like 25/30X.
Following some of the available options: Horn Antenna (external to the chassis), Monitor and keyboard, Touchscreen, DC Power Supply, UPS.

The MPG 4010 Series is a VOR-ILS Avionics Generator suitable for the testing of VHF Omni-directional Radio Range (VOR)
systems, Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) and Marker Beacons receivers.

The MPG 4010 Series is fully compatible to Aeroflex NAV 750C, 2030 and 2040 Series GPIB commands, enabling simplified
and optimized replacement. Avionics parameters are presented in the same form as described in the ICAO standards.
The 4010 Generator is the ideal solution for the testing of avionics on-board LRU and airfield alarm monitors in STTE
systems. The use of a Vector Modulator and Digital Modulation Techniques ensures very high accuracy and stable
performance over all operating conditions.

The 4010 Series is able to generate one, two or three independent Avionics Waveforms at the same time to simulate real situations (ILS complete signal
[Localizer and Glideslope at the same time], dynamic simulation of an approaching aircraft to airport, …). The unit can accommodate up to three
independent Avionics Generators into one chassis, to cover all the needs in terms of testing and space occupation:

MPG 4010: Single Channel Avionics Generator
MPG 4011: Two-Channel Avionics Generator
MPG 4012: Three-Channel Avionics Generator

MPG Instruments offers a high performance VOR/ILS generator for the testing of ILS, VOR, Marker Beacon and aircraft communications systems. For bench
testing of navigation receivers the MPG Generator series provides high accuracy, allowing even high performance receivers used for airfield alarm monitors to be tested with confidence.
The systems provide frequency options up to 6GHz, enabling future implementations of MLS waveforms. The current MPG VOR/ILS
units will indeed allow future update to MLS testing, solving therefore the obsolescence issue of the MLS-800 system unit.

Digital radio systems operate differently than legacy analog systems.  Although digital modulation alignments are similar to alignments used in analog radio systems, digital radios require more precise alignment to achieve optimum performance and must be verified for digital modulation performance.  Proper alignment can improve systems performance to maximize and deliver the high performance that it was designed to provide.  Improper alignments can cause degraded digital modulation accuracy, which has a significant impact on the receiver’s ability to recover digital data.  In some instances, this can affect range to the same extent as a 75% reduction in power.

This study uses statistical data provided through extensive lab testing and through the use of actual recorded digital radio RF transmitter parameters.  It shows how modulation alignments of one radio’s transmitter parameters can positively or negatively affect performance of another radio’s receiver.  The performance of various radio receivers were measured using popular radios with transmitters that have been aligned using OEM approved techniques.  The tests utilized FM deviation meters for aligning modulation balance and modulation-limiting parameters, while accommodating for variations in meter specification and audio filter settings.

The conclusion from these tests indicates that with a proper understanding of digital radio operations, performance can be significantly improved.  The proper setting of audio filter parameters and the use of accurate deviation meters can also improve digital radio performance. Conversely, the use of inaccurate FM deviation meters compounded by improper audio filter settings and lack of knowledge of meter specifications and operation, can dramatically and negatively impact digital radio performance.
